The theme loads standard system fonts by default, which means no external CSS is being loaded from Google or Typekit. This doesn’t mean that Textual won’t work with web fonts. Using the fantastic and free Google Fonts plugin for WordPress you can add any Google fonts. We’ve even integrated a bespoke options panel to get you up and running quickly complete with font choices that we recommend would work well with the typography of the theme. Just read our extensive theme documentation for all of the details.

Well yes, you’re right. We’ve made Textual super-duper quick to load in its raw form. So if you want to chuck a load of plugins at it, the base theme itself is still going to perform very well for you.
Don’t worry though, you can still add images, we’re not crazy!

Loads of Sidebars and Widget Areas
We’ve got 7 widget areas in the theme, you have different sidebars for your home and archive pages, your single posts and your standard pages.
We’ve also got header and footer widget areas that count your widgets and lay them out in columns according to how many widgets you’ve added.
This means if you just add one widget to the header widget area (which appears just below the header and just before the content) if will center itself, perfect for web adverts!
We’ve even got 2 bespoke widgets for displaying your social icons (check out the header and footer and sidebar for these) and our MeanThemes About You to upload an image of you’re beautiful face complete with a mini biography area.

Hi, quick question. Is it possible to have an image in header over the entire area (by default it’s just white and you can only change colour and have an image above title but not over entire area)?

ReplyDeleteNice theme. Looking at my iPhone, why is the photo of Tom Textural at the bottom of the blog, can’t it come first?
ReplyDeleteThe photo is at the bottom on mobile as its a sidebar widget. The sidebar is less important than the content so drops below the content on mobile. If you were to change the sidebar positioning then you would need to use the provided child theme and modify some of the files. That would however put the entire sidebar above the content so if you add lots of widgets it would be a long scroll before the viewer actually hit some real content.

ReplyDelete1. On archives, can we change the order to where authors appear first on the page? This is coming up bc Recent Post and By Date is already in the sidebar and it’s redundant to lead with these again.
2. On Recent Posts page (home page for my site), how to show more of the post before “Read More.” Mine is only showing 2 sentences or less which is not enough information to intrigue the reader.
3. What is the easiest way to put ads in the sidebar?

1. I can’t seem to access a customization demo, referenced in the description. Am I missing it?
2. Can I move the sidebar to the left with out-of-the-box adjustments, or would that take extra coding?
3. Can I decrease the sidebar width?
4. Can I show full posts on the home page, rather than excerpts? (Most of my posts are very short, so excerpts don’t make sense.)
5. Can I use a column shortcode to create a 2/3 + 1/3 layout for a small image and blockquote callout, in addition to splitting the text into columns of equal size?

ReplyDelete1. Sorry we’ve disabled this on all of our demos, we’ll update the description. We were using a third party plugin to show the customiser but it has a few bugs and it is now no longer being supported by the developer so we had to remove it. This isn’t a theme issue and was for the demo only.
2. Yes, just tick the customizer setting:

4. Yes, just make sure you don’t include any read more tags or custom excerpts and that the auto excerpt is not ticked in the customizer.

Hi, I’m considering buying this theme, but I want to make sure I can make a few easy customizations first:
ReplyDeleteCan I remove the social links from header? I find social icons at the very top distracting… I’d either want them completely gone or located /after/ the header text. (The mobile version, for example, looks a lot better.)
Can I easily change the link style that adds strikethrough to a:hover?

Yes and yes. The icons are our social widget so can be placed in any widgetized area. The strikethrough can be turned off via the theme customizer

Is Turkish characters will cause problems? ( i ? ç ? ö )
ReplyDeleteHi there it would depend on the font you choose, you’d need to make sure the characters you need are supported. Most system fonts should be fine and you can check character sets on Google fonts and type kit when viewing the fonts.
