Fixed problem with WP 4.8 and TGMPA-TGM-Plugin-Activation
(no theme update required, the problem occurs during installation)
I have purchased Dawg theme. Do I need to buy Layers pro as well?
ReplyDeleteI found glitch on home page 2 coding with Dog posts section. Each article coming below the previous instead of side by side.
Also I want to make child them. How can I make child theme if Dawg it self a child theme of layers ?
You don’t need to buy Layers Pro if you don’t want to, it’s not a must. It would be great if you provide your website URL so I can take a look at the page source code and possibly figure out the glitch.
ReplyDeleteAs for a child theme, you can’t make child of a child theme in WordPress, you can edit child theme only.
Thank you for quick response.
ReplyDeleteI know that I can’t make child theme for child theme. But what if I want to make some custom changes which don’t loose while updating theme ?
I might loose my changes if I update theme.
About home page here is the link.
https://pets.sacredfiredesign.com/
For Our Champions section I used following css to solve issue.
@media only screen and (min-width: 769px)
style.css?ver=1.6.5:198
.column-flush.span-3 {
float: left;
}
Also How can I change home page slider button color and style to change as home page #4
For the content widget even if I don’t feel Title and Excerpt it’s div reserves space.
I define class in first slide of slider of home page. but it is not working. I cant see my given class in in first slide div than how can I apply css to that particular slide.
I cant apply custom class to any widget or column.
You can create an instance of child theme in that case. Rename the theme folder and change child theme name in “style.css” file header correspondingly.
ReplyDeleteIf you are about to make an exception in slider’s slide button color then add a chunk of custom CSS to a certain slide ( http://prnt.sc/ea8vsj ). Please note that #layers-widget-slide-20-580 is a slider’s slide ID and your own might have different ID. Use Developer Tools of your Browser to find out its ID.
Otherwise, re-style “button” globally in “style.css”. For example:
input[type="button"], input[type="submit"], button, .button, .form-submit input[type="submit"], .invert input[type="button"], .invert input[type="submit"], .invert button, .invert .button, .invert .form-submit input[type="submit"] {
background: #YOUR_COLOR;
color: #YOUR_COLOR;
}
Not sure how do you mean that the custom class doesn’t get applied to selected slide, it all works fine at my end. Here’s a screenshot: http://prnt.sc/ea8y2y .
As for the Title and Excerpt of the content widget, that’s just how Layerswp parent theme handles inputs. It obviously doesn’t check whether inputs are blank before rendering HTML. Maybe you could fix that within stylesheet file (“style.css”), like:
.section-title .heading:empty { display: none; }
.section-title .excerpt:empty { display: none; }
Hope it helps!
I installed the theme installable files zip & i’m getting this error.
ReplyDeleteThe parent theme is missing. Please install the “layerswp” parent theme.
Please at least open theme manuals and read the very first chapter. It’s clearly stated that Dawg is a child theme of Layerswp. In order to make a child theme become functional, parent theme MUST be installed (tho not activated) too. Theme manuals also provide the parent theme download link.
ReplyDeleteHope it helps!
Hi.
ReplyDeleteI cannot successfully upload the Dawg Theme. The error says I’m missing the file layerswp.
I’m lost.
Thanks.
Bill
That’s because Dawg is a child theme of Layerswp – please open theme manuals and read the installation procedure.
ReplyDeleteI am having a issue with the theme where the Our Dogs Widget is displaying images as ovals not circles. You can see this at the dev site.
ReplyDeletehttp://ec2-34-210-24-204.us-west-2.compute.amazonaws.com
Not sure what caused the problem… if you open “layersdawg/core/widgets/widget-dogs-list.php” and take a look at the line #197, you’ll find the following chunk of code:
ReplyDelete$thumbnail = has_post_thumbnail() ? get_the_post_thumbnail( get_the_ID(), array( 70, 70 ) ) : '<img src="//placehold.it/70x70">';
...which means that WordPress should generate 70×70px thumbnail ( more info on get_the_post_thumbnail() ). Did you possibly change anything to “List Dogs” widget code?
I mean, I just tried to re-init “List Dogs” widget at my end but everything works fine (WP 4.7.4. , layerswp theme 1.6.6.).
If you want me to take a look at your website please provide Admin credentials via PM (click on my avatar and use contact form in the sidebar of profile page).
Hello,
ReplyDeleteI can not upload the theme. It always shows that it is already installed, but is then stored under media. what should I do? I do not get it saved under Themes. Help
It shows www / htdocs / w016bdde / der-malteserhund.de / wp-content / themes / layersdawg /
That’s the strangest thing I have ever heard so far. I really don’t know what is going on at your end mate but the procedure should be the following:
ReplyDelete1) Download theme package
2) Unzip package to a local drive
3) Download and install Layerswp (it’s a parent theme required by Dawg which is a child theme). No need to activate, just install. Here’s the download link: https://www.layerswp.com/download-layers/
4) Now install Dawg from the unzipped theme’s package folder and activate
Be sure to follow theme docs which can be found in unzipped theme’s package folder as well!

ReplyDeleteAuthor a complete tool! Support is so slow and often goes unanswered!
ReplyDeleteHis themes full of bugs and refuses to fix them!
How do I change the number located in the top bar?
ReplyDeleteSelect Customize from Admin bar or Appearance > Customize first. It should open theme customizer. Now click on Header panel, then Layout and find the section “Call Banner”.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Is there anyway to link this so that when it is clicked it will initialize within the dialpad on someone’s phone to actually make the call?
ReplyDeleteYes, there is a way. Hopefully this article will be helpful!
ReplyDeleteIf you wonder what to modify in your (child) theme, open “functions.php”, and go to lines #423 – #427. These should read the following:
echo '<div class="' . $classes . '">';
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '<div class="container">';
echo esc_attr( $dawg_call_text );
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '</div>';
echo '</div>';
Now replace these with this:
echo '<div class="' . $classes . '">';
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '<div class="container">';
echo '<a href="tel:' . esc_attr( $dawg_call_text ) . '">' . esc_attr( $dawg_call_text ) . '</a>';
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '</div>';
echo '</div>';
Save “functions.php”! You can use WP’s theme editor for this purpose.
Would the child theme be the WP Dog Breeder theme, or layers? I am assuming that it is within editor and then functions.php which I would assume is for WP Dog Breeder theme… Also, the article that you posted along with the code references that need to be replaced. Does something need to be done somewhere else as well? Thanks for the help.
ReplyDeleteOK… Layerswp is a parent theme and Dawg is a child theme. The above code belongs to the child theme. Login to WP Admin, select Appearance > Editor and then click “functions.php” file on the list (sidebar). Scroll down to the line #423 and replace the code. Save changes.
ReplyDeleteDo you want me to do it for you? If true, please create temporary admin account for me and use PM to send credentials. In order to send PM click on my avatar and use contact form in the sidebar of my profile page.
I would have definitely had you do it for me, but now I have a ParseError thrown and need to login to FTP to change the files back to the original format and try this again.
ReplyDeleteThe problem I had is that the text was not showing up as I had intended: “Give us a call: ##########” and I tried to make the changes and save, but must have corrupted the file. Also, I had gotten just the number to work, but the font was loading in black on a black background — even though I had edited this in the customize section.
Oh, it sounds like you forgot to close some tag but can’t speak for sure. Anyhow, just let me know when you are ready and I’ll change the code for you.
ReplyDeleteI got the ParseError thrown squared away. Would you be able to send me the full snippet of code that needs to be implemented to have this text in white font and the numbers in bold, read — Give us a call: ###.###.#### — the background bar is black.
ReplyDeleteGive us a call: ###.###.####
ReplyDeleteThis is the only text that will be shown, and the # depicts a given number. Thanks for the help, much appreciated!
I told you which file to change and which line numbers so I guess that part should be OK.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I can suggest you to try is to enter phone number directly, like so:
echo '<div class="' . $classes . '">';
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '<div class="container">';
echo '<a href="tel:###.###.####">Give us a call: ###.###.####</a>';
if( $dawg_call_header_width === 'layout-boxed' ) echo '</div>';
echo '</div>';
Does that make sense?
Oh, yea so I just need to enter the numbers in here and I should be good?
ReplyDeleteSee it works, but it is all black font and not shown because the background is black.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there is a certain string of code I need to insert in the short text field under customizing > header > styling > call banner ?
ReplyDeleteOwh, I forgot that there shouldn’t be a link initially so the link in header inherited color of the main section (which is black).
ReplyDeleteNow try to add the following to your child’s theme “style.css” (the very bottom should be just fine):
.dawg-call-banner a:link,
.dawg-call-banner a:visited {
color: #FFFFFF;
}
/* this is in case you need a hover effect with the different color */
.dawg-call-banner a:hover,
.dawg-call-banner a:focus {
color: #F1F1F1;
}
You can also use WP theme editor to edit your stylesheet file!
Alright, it showed up on the desktop, but not the mobile website, which in this case is more important. What needs to be done to make this white coloring appear on mobile?
ReplyDeleteMaybe your mobile device is pulling the content out of cache. The above chunk of CSS must work on each and every device, even on Windows 3.1. Please try to empty cache on mobile device somehow (Google for help, you didn’t specify device name so I have no clue). Let me know!
ReplyDeleteWorked. Thanks for all the help.
ReplyDeleteI received an email with an update available for Dawg – WP Dog Breeder theme. Should I do this update? Will doing the update clear all of the work I have done thus far? How do I update the theme without changing anything I have worked on thus far…
No need to update – as stated in theme’s Changelog. This is only for users who start from scratch. As for losing data upon update (in general), no need to worry because everything is saved to database. Switching to another theme is just fine since the theme itself is used for data presentation only. Hope it makes sense!
ReplyDeleteAlright, very cool. Thanks for the help. So, is there a way to have a photo appear generally better on a mobile device than the wide format allocated to the desktop build?
ReplyDeleteUhmmm… my friend I’m not sure I understood your question this time. And I certainly don’t want to provide wrong answers. Will you be able to spice it up with a little bit more info? Sorry for leaving you without an answer this time!
ReplyDeleteCertainly, no problem. So the images for the site main slider images on the homepage are uploaded with a width of 1600px. Since these images are designed for desktop use (because of the size) — is there a way to have the images appear on the mobile site in a different size that I create?
ReplyDeleteWell, images are responsive and should scale down on smaller viewport device – to the certain degree. Why? Because, slider height is fixed and once slider image is scaled down to that very height it can’t go below, it’s rather cut off side wide.
ReplyDeleteIf there’s some text covering slider photo, it might break the slider boundaries due to insufficient space. Of course, it may also happen by default but I guess chances are better if slider height is fixed.
I am looking to make contact form 7 a two column form. When I place the code in styles.css within the child theme the form does not update to become a two column form. Would you happen to know why this is?
ReplyDeleteAre you using any of page caching plugin, such as WP Cache, WP Super Cache and similar? If true, disable it first, clear cache and see whether it helps. Other than that I see no reason why it doesn’t work. Maybe it’s just browser’s buffer, switch temporarily to another browser to check it out.
ReplyDeleteOn a side note, be sure that styles you wrote are not colliding with existing ones that might get loaded AFTER child theme styles. Plugins could screw things up occasionally…
That seemed to do the trick! Thanks! The only thing I am seeing now is the font seems to be bold on the fields that are in a single column after the two column .html … do you know why this would be happening?
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could try to use !important declaration with the font-weight property, something like
ReplyDelete.my-class { font-weight: normal !important; }
That should force declared weight to be used even though otherwise stated. Hope it helps!
I will give that a shot for the font weight, but not really sure where I would put this section of code. Either way thank you for all the help the past few weeks. Much appreciated.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I wasn’t clear enough, ”.my-class” refers to the class which is used to style up your form element. That very form element includes font weight – be it DIV, label, paragraph or anything alike. So, you gonna have to edit your child’s theme stylesheet.
ReplyDeleteAlright, so implement the section of code you mention in the css.styesheet? ... For the given contact form 7 I created? i only see an issue with the font on the bottom half of the form where it goes to single line form. You can go to sanmannkennels.com to see what I mean.
ReplyDeleteAlso, is there a way to place a background behind the excerpt on the slider and in front of the specific photo on the slider? Reason being is on mobile it is very difficult to read… Thanks.
I took a look at the page source code and your form doesn’t seem to be well formatted with regards to HTML…
ReplyDeleteFor instance, form labels are not enclosed within any HTML element ( https://prnt.sc/g0uo9z ) which means you can’t access the label wrapper (element) via class and style it up. Try adding a wrapping element on contact form edit screen (admin)!
Once all of the labels are wrapped simply use
.my-form-element { font-weight: normal !important; }
...and all of the labels inherit the property.
As for the slider text background… it’s a little bit more trickier but not impossible. If you want to add the background for mobile devices only, use media queries. For instance…
@media only screen and (min-width: 480px) {
.swiper-slide .container {
background: rgba( 0, 0, 0, 0.5 );
padding: 20px;
}
}
Adjust min-width property to your needs!
Hope it helps!
Where would these media queries go? There is not a section for implementing code for an individual slide… in this instance this background would only need to be applied to the first slide, around the text, on mobile.
ReplyDeleteYou can either land the code to your child’s theme “style.css” or insert via customizer (preferred). If there’s a slider container with text found then the background will be visible. Otherwise it won’t. Media query makes the background visible on 480px (or less) wide viewport.
ReplyDeleteI tried the form labels for a better format .html, it did not work. I believe your descriptions may be different for the form name possibly? I implemented the
ReplyDeleteFirst name [text* first-name]
Last Name [text* last-name]
Email [email* your-email]
Phone (Optional) [tel your-phone]
How did you find us? (Optional) [text find-us]
Subject [text* your-subject]
Message [textarea* your-message]
[submit “Send”]
I then tried this… the code you said implement:
First Name [text* first-name]
Last Name [text* last-name]
Email [email* your-email]
Phone (Optional) [tel your-phone]
How did you find us? (Optional) [text find-us]
Subject [text* your-subject]
Message [textarea* your-message]
[submit “Send”]
And... I added .my-form-element { font-weight: normal !important; } in the additional settings. But the bottom half was still appearing in bold.
I also tried this in the customizer underneath the text in the customize part, it just showed a white box with the code within it… I would like to display the white text with a 25% opacity black box behind the font on the first slider.
@media only screen and (min-width: 480px) {
.swiper-slide .container {
background: rgba( 0, 0, 0, 0.5 );
padding: 20px;
}
}
apologies, the second code that you had recommended to try was with this…
ReplyDeleteFirst Name [text* first-name]
Last Name [text* last-name]
Email [email* your-email]
Phone (Optional) [tel your-phone]
How did you find us? (Optional) [text find-us]
Subject [text* your-subject]
Message [textarea* your-message]
[submit “Send”]
it is showing up different on here?
I’m kinda lost mate… Essentially, Contact Form 7 plugin allows you to wrap form elements with HTML code. So, for instance, you might want to do add something like this under Edit Contact Form screen, Form tab:
ReplyDelete<div class="column span-6 first">
<label class="contact-form-label">First Name [text* first-name]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-6 last">
<label class="contact-form-label">Last Name [text* last-name]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-6 first">
<label class="contact-form-label">Email [email* your-email]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-12">
<label class="contact-form-label">Phone (Optional) [tel your-phone]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-12">
<label class="contact-form-label">How did you find us? (Optional) [text find-us]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-12">
<label class="contact-form-label">Subject [text* your-subject]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-12">
<label class="contact-form-label">Message [textarea* your-message]</label>
</div>
<div class="column span-12">
[submit “Send”]
</div>
...and then style .contact-form-label class if necessary:
.contact-form-label {
font-weight: normal !important;
}
Does it make sense? If not, feel free to create temporary admin account for me and send via PM (click on my avatar and use contact form in sidebar of my profile page).
6. Theme Menus
ReplyDeleteIn Dashboard select Appearance > Menus. Once there, be sure that Edit Menus tab is active.
From Select a menu to edit drop-down select Main Menu and hit “Select” button.
https://postimg.org/image/4t6mtrx5b/
In Menu Settings section, under Theme locations be sure to tick “Header Menu” checkbox.
Click “Save Menu” button to confirm changes. (After following this step my menu bar disappears please advice)
https://postimg.org/image/cjjeyved5/
That’s strange. Are you using any other third party plugin that might have something to do with menus?
ReplyDeleteI figured it out Thanks
ReplyDeleteOK, great! Feedback on the problem is highly appreciated for myself and other theme users too!
ReplyDeleteHello Support, I just installed the DAWG theme and when I upload to my host as a new theme, it says this below: Unpacking the package…
ReplyDeleteInstalling the theme…
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet.
Theme install failed.
Can you please help me? I need this theme working for a new client of mine. My email is: kawaiian@gmail.com
Thanks,
Tony
Sure I can, the problem relies in fact that you didn’t install the parent theme. Please open theme manuals, it’ll tell you how and what to do in the very first installation step.
ReplyDeleteYes, please walk me through on how to install please, much appreciated as my client is asking me why its taking so long to create his site…
ReplyDeleteOk… download and install Layerswp theme ( https://www.layerswp.com/download-layers/ ) first. No need to activate, simply install as any other WP theme. After that install Dawg and ACTIVATE. Open theme manuals and follow further installation steps – if you want to import demo content, of course.
ReplyDeletePlease help! I have purchased the dog theme and when I try to install it on my host, I get a css styles error missing. Can you please send me documentation on steps to install please? I have a client that is asking me why his website is not up yet. This is an urgent request..
ReplyDeleteThank you,
Tony Andico
kawaiian@gmail.com
Please read theme manuals, everything has been elaborated step by step, even the previous post answers the question of yours.
ReplyDeleteDawg is a child theme and as such requires parent theme to be installed (not activated tho). So, go to Layerswp official website, download the theme and install as any other WP theme. No need to activate, just install. After that be sure that Dawg is activated.
Okay I installed the Layerswp but accidentially activated it. It that okay? So do I know install the Dawg theme by uploading over the Layerswp? Please help…
ReplyDeleteIt doesn’t matters you did… Layerswp needs to be installed but not activated while Dawg needs to be both – installed and activated. As simple as that.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI have bought your dawgd template and to be honest im wondering if this is a template or just a how to tutorial.
I completed all steps from the documentation and im not even close the demo.
my site: rottweiler-deo-volente.com
How i want it to look like: http://dawg.wpshow.me/home-page-2/
I’m currently having my family vacation and can’t help much by using iPad only. When someone is stuck importing demo site I jump in and work it out. So the only thing I can offer right now is refund. Please send request from your account if you decide to go for it. I’m truly and honestly sorry for the lack of help!
ReplyDeletehow long do you stay on vecay? I´m making this website for a cousin and he wants this design
