What is Easy Digital Downloads?
Easy Digital Downloads (EDD) is a free WordPress plugin that enables you to sell digital goods on your website. EDD is entirely optional and is only required if you would like to sell digital products on your website. Although EDD is 100% free, you can also purchase extensions to add more features to your site, making it as minimal or powerful as you’d like.
What is the Marketplace bundle?
The Marketplace bundle is a collection of extensions that have been specifically chosen for users that wish to setup a marketplace with Easy Digital Downloads. These extensions add features like Frontend User Submissions, Reviews, Recommended Products and Wish Lists, allowing you to create a single or multi-user marketplace. Checkout was designed to integrate seamlessly with all of the extensions in the Marketplace bundle.
The Marketplace bundle is not required to sell your products with Easy Digital Downloads, only if you want to create a marketplace. Checkout and Easy Digital Downloads function as a standalone digital store out of the box.
What is a Typekit font?
Typekit is a font subscription service that offers top-quality fonts from the world’s best foundries, for use on the web. We’ve partnered with Typekit to bring these professionally-designed fonts to your website!
Why is it important to have finely-crafted typography? Typography can be very influential on visitors to your site, and can have a stunning effect when done properly. Typography draws in your visitor and sets the tone for your content. For this reason, we’ve chosen to feature Proxima Nova in Checkout, a super clean, modern sans-serif font with a bold, professional appearance.
What plugins are recommended with Checkout?
We’ve added a list of recommended plugins below. All of the plugins are optional, but some are required to create a website similar to the Checkout demo. To get the most out of Checkout, you’ll at least want to install the Array Toolkit (free) and Easy Digital Downloads (free).
If you’d like to build a business/portfolio site with a digital store, you’ll need to add a few of the following plugins.

Can I sell physical goods with Checkout?
Checkout is built to work exclusively with Easy Digital Downloads, and therefore does not support physical goods at this time.

ReplyDeleteCheckout is not optimized for WooCommerce. It’s meant to work exclusively with EDD, which works best with digital goods.

ReplyDeleteI am in the process of building a modern dark child theme for Array Themes Checkout this week. The theme will be released for free (under the GPL2 license) in the next week or two via our Facebook page and website.
I have added new page templates, extended EDD functionality, dark colour scheme and general improvements over the original theme.

ReplyDeleteHow hard would it to be to add a favorite icon, like a wishlist icon HEART character, on each item for sale on its thumbnail before clicking through to the product page. I plant to sell stock photos, which if you look at how stocksy.com mobile works, they have the ability for you to ‘favorite’ a photo, which you are then prompted to add to a new public/private ‘lightbox/photo set’ list. You can create multiple lists to share/email to your boss/self and I feel like this would be great functionality to be able to quickly “like” or favorite a group of products for you to then come back to and edit/purchase later. I think it would be great to be able to add a “heart icon” next to the item price in bottom left, or next to the Authors name in bottom right of each items thumbnail in the grid. Make sense?

ReplyDeleteYeah you’d essentially end up with the Wish Lists plugin, so you might as well pick that up. You’d need to do a little customization to get it how you want it, but it shouldn’t be too difficult if you know a little code!
How about support to display results in something other than a long single list, for selling stock photos or any products, seeing results in a long scroll is an immediate reason to leave a site, its a huge waste of time, and lazy design. How hard would it be to make the default mobile browsing 2 or 3 columns? I’d pay a developer to do it if i had to, just curious how hard it would be, as the current option of only single column is a big deal breaker.
ReplyDeletedisplaying product results or search results in a masonry grid layout is probably the best option to have, as stock photos all don’t share the same image aspect ratio… i’m looking for a somewhat flexible ability to display search results that dont’ require someone to scroll the mouse wheel 100 times to get to bottom of page, of course, unless it had ‘infinite scrolling’ too, but i’ll stick to my first issue right now of the single column search results being something that no end user would really want.

ReplyDeleteRight now the search results are in a list format, but we’ve seen users customize this rather easily on their end. You’ll want to take a look at the downloads template to see the markup for the column style. We may offer this in the future, but we have other updates lined up for Checkout first.

ReplyDeleteThe sample data will only add sample posts and pages. It will not setup the theme as seen in the demo. To do that, you need to check out the help file and set up the various pages of the theme.
